The menu at Rangoon - Chelsea is a delightful journey through Burmese flavors, balancing comforting classics with exciting culinary twists. A must-try is the Tea Leaf Salad, celebrated for its complex, crunchy texture and bold, umami-rich notes that illustrate the soul of Burmese cuisine. Equally compelling is the Coconut Chicken Noodle Soup, which invites diners into a lighter, fragrant broth reminiscent of Southeast Asia’s beloved laksa or Khao Soi. Every tender bite is infused with rich, aromatic spices that linger pleasantly on the palate.
For those eager to explore further, the Burmese Disco Fries offer a fun and unexpectedly addictive appetizer experience—crispy potato crisps loaded with vibrant toppings that ignite the taste buds. The Lamb Curry impresses with its tender, slow-cooked meat enveloped in a deeply flavorful, spiced sauce, while the Coconut Tapioca dessert gently wraps up the meal with its silky, subtly sweet finish, although it may be a more acquired taste for some.
Other highlights include the Garlic Noodles, praised for their lightness and subtle savoriness that pairs beautifully with a hint of Sriracha for those who like a touch of heat. The assortment of skewers—ranging from shrimp to ginger beef—delivers perfectly crispy exteriors and succulent interiors, especially when complemented by Rangoon’s signature sauces. Seafood Curry and Burmese Fried Chicken add even more layers to a menu designed to satisfy both adventurous foodie hearts and those seeking comforting, flavorful dishes.

My first foray into Burmese food, which I thoroughly enjoyed! I ordered the chicken curry noodle soup, which kind of felt like a lighter laksa/Khao Soi. I appreciated that the noodles soaked up the soup’s flavor, which made every bite extra delicious. We also ordered the disco fries (fried potato crisps) to share, which everyone at the table enjoyed.

The skewers and fried chicken were delicious, especially with the sauces. The ramen was quite interesting, but the crispy chicken didn’t hold up well. The lamb was tasty, but the tapioca dessert was not my cup of tea. Overall, I recommend this place for trying different cuisines with a variety of flavors.
Really enjoyed lunch at Rangoon - we ordered the tea leaf salad (my all time favorite, it's got so much crunch & it's great), the ginger beef skewer (small but packs flavor), the shrimp skewers (crispy, whole body shrimps), and the garlic noodles (light and tasty). The garlic noodles are a more subtle flavor, and while it comes with a side of Sriracha, I actually really liked the noodles with the green sauce that came with the skewers. The inside has many tables and the decor is a kind of charming, modern take on a retro diner. Very clean as well.
Went here for brunch on a Sunday with my girlfriend. Ambience was warm and pleasant, service was friendly. We had the bottomless brunch with delicious mimosas - esp the passion fruit & tamarind stood out! Food was delicious, good flavors and portions. We had the disco fries, tacos and the chicken curry with turmeric rice. Would love to go back & try some of the other things from the menu.
Go for the ambience - stay for the food. The drinks that have tamarind in them are delicious: I had one with rum. Lamb curry was mild spice wise for my taste, but it was flavorful. you need to try the coconut chicken noodle soup: that is the most delicious chicken soup you’ll ever have.
I absolutely LOVE Rangoon! I live in the area and frequent this restaurant often. I crave the flavors of these dishes all the time and there’s no where else to get it! So fresh and delicious, it is one of Chelsea’s best food gems. I’m vegetarian, and often come with friends who eat meat, and there’s something delicious for all of us. I came recently right when they opened so took the opportunity to take photos of the different spaces, all are so cute and quaint. Aside from the main dining area which features a big window on each end, there is a more intimate dining area downstairs, as well as a backyard dining area used for special events. My favorite dish is the Cold Tamarind Salad, along with the fritters and tea salad. Anything you get here you will love, I promise! And on certain days they have specials :) Great place to meet a friend or go on a date. Great service always, and I cannot stress how FRESH the food is!
Always a pleasure dining at Rangoon in Chelsea, NYC! Chef Myo’s Burmese comfort food is truly from the heart. I always leave feeling full but never bloated, which is rare these days. The squash tempura is my new favorite, and we always get the tea leaf salad. Haven’t had a dish I didn’t love and it’s been great experiencing something new each time. The interior and patio area is very cute and cozy as well!
